Why Chiropractic

Chiropractors correct subluxations.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Doctors of chiropractic—often referred to as DCs, chiropractors or chiropractic physicians—practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment. In addition to their expertise in spinal adjustment, doctors of chiropractic have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

What conditions do chiropractors treat?

Doctors of chiropractic care for patients of all ages, with a variety of health conditions. DCs are especially well known for their expertise in caring for patients with back pain, neck pain, and headaches with their highly skilled chiropractic adjustments. They also care for patients with a wide range of injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system, involving the muscles, ligaments, and joints. These painful conditions often involve or impact the nervous system, which can cause referred pain and dysfunction distant to the region of injury. The benefits of chiropractic care extend to general health issues, as well, since our body structure affects our overall function. DCs also counsel patients on diet, nutrition, exercise, healthy habits, and occupational and lifestyle modification.

WHO WE HELP

BACK AND SPINAL PAIN

The care that you give your spine directly affects your overall health. We use modern chiropractic technology and exercises to remove subluxations causing any form of back pain. When people visit chiropractors for back pain they can avoid undergoing back surgery and taking medication. Both of these treatments for back pain are risky and costly to the individual and insurance providers alike.

HEADACHES AND MIGRAINES

Even small chiropractic adjustments can help regulate blood flow to the brain. Decreased blood flow to the brain often results in headaches or even migraines. Simple adjustments can often eliminate this. Research shows that spinal manipulation – the primary form of care provided by doctors of chiropractic – may be an effective treatment option for tension headaches and headaches that originate in the neck.

A report released in 2001 by researchers at the Duke University Evidence-Based Practice Center in Durham, NC, found that spinal manipulation resulted in almost immediate improvement for those headaches that originate in the neck, and had significantly fewer side effects and longer-lasting relief of tension-type headache than a commonly prescribed medication.

NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN

Small adjustments in your neck can have a large impact on the tension in your neck and upper back muscles reducing and eliminating pain and discomfort. There can be many contributing factors to neck pain, such as:

  • Trauma

  • Overuse

  • Wear and Tear

  • Poor Posture

They can ultimately lead to pain due to injury of the structures of and surrounding the spine, such as muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons, discs blood vessels, and nerves.

SPORTS INJURY

Sports injuries, today are not just limited to professional athletes or boys who participate in school sports programs. Today, a large number of people of both sexes and all ages are regularly participating in sports and fitness activities. There are women playing traditionally men’s sports such as soccer, basketball, and kickboxing. The vast majority of both sexes play golf, tennis, basketball, and/or participate in aerobic activities like running. Regrettably, the risk of injury is always a possibility with any sports activity. In the fast-paced world of sports, mechanical breakdowns of the body are more and more common. Whether it is muscles, ligaments or tendons, we pride ourselves in providing solutions quickly to get you back out on the playing field.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

Aside from physical adjustments we recognize and focus on areas in your life where stress is coming in. Once we have identified the sources, we approach each one to eliminate the factor. Chiropractic care and stress management care present procedures that are conservative and effective in disease prevention and holistic care. Both of these health systems do not use drugs or surgery. This reason alone has caused the increased popularity of these systems. In addition, Chiropractic and Stress Management care emphasize more responsibility in the healing process on the part of the patient. Read more on Stress Management.

VERTIGO AND DIZZINESS

Vertigo is a common symptom presenting in chiropractic patients, especially after head and neck trauma. Vertigo and dizziness can be very disabling complaints. It is a sense of dizziness or spinning, sometimes associated with symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and sweating. It can have many causes and in most cases, it is a treatable condition. The treatment used obviously depends on the cause. That is why the chiropractor has to do a thorough examination when you first come in for treatment. People with above-average balance issues are found to have a high correlation with upper cervical dysfunction in the spine. We isolate specific vertebrae and begin individualized treatment.

AUTO ACCIDENT AND INJURY

If you have been involved in a car accident, even the smallest amount of whiplash can impact your overall spinal health. We will work with you to create a treatment plan that fits your specific needs. You need a doctor who focuses in the treatment and diagnosis of auto accident injuries. Usually hospitals will check vital signs, make sure there are no life-threatening conditions and release the patient with pain relief medication. They normally do not treat the underlying improper musculoskeletal biomechanics that can and often do lead to future pain. If you are still having problems, you should get a second opinion.

If your M.D. has given you pills, you must understand that pills do not correct structural or soft tissue damage. There are special therapies designed for that, and we offer these modalities at our office.
