Being at peace is the ability to choose what you respond to. “To respond” is not the same as “to react.” There is a sense of peace within a response, whereas, reactions are lead by the ego. Or are these just semantics? Ask yourself.
Reactions happen without much presence, like a “knee jerk” reaction. The ego reacts without much thought. (There is also a difference between thoughts and the conscious act of thinking. It’s easy to have thoughts. It takes more presence to consciously think.) In this way, A response is much deeper and requires the conscious act of thinking.
Though today’s meditation, I have identified REACTING vs. RESPONDING and HAVING THOUGHTS vs. THE ACT OF CONSCIOUSLY THINKING.
